Life can be challenging with a newborn baby, but it can also be a wonderful learning experience for new mums. I love making lists, so here is a thing or two that my baby who is now 8 weeks old has taught me – so far:
Life is exciting! Experiencing everything through the eyes of a baby again makes me excited about my surroundings: The patterns of the swaying leaves in the trees when I look up in the sky, the bright coloured dresses on the clothing line and the sound of old forgotten children’s songs.
Enjoying the moment! A little baby requires a lot of attention. Having a shower or sitting down to eat a meal together have become a luxury and I really learned to appreciate every second in which I can slow down and enjoy a moment. A moment like this one right now – where I have both hands free to type up a little blog post.
Making the best of the time I have! Before having a baby I often struggled with procrastinating or letting hours slip past unnoticed by scrolling through social media feeds. Now I know how to manage every free second and how to fill my day only with important things and things that help me recharge.
I have approximately three minutes left to finish this post: Do I wish I had more time for myself? My friends? Cutting my finger nails, eating my dinner, talk about the weather or stare at my wardrobe deciding what to wear today? Yes, yes, yes, yes and YES. But here is the thing: My baby hasn’t just taught me how to prioritise and only leave room for what’s important: My baby has taught me how to live a more exciting and an incredibly purposeful life that fills me with joy. Every. Single. Day.

Having a baby has forced me to take more time instead of rushing through a task just to check it off my to-do list. It’s also allowed me to be less precious. Done is better than perfect. And most of all, it’s made me super productive, picky and efficient with my time.
